Contact and research help

If you need help with your genealogy, or have a question about a surname or a document in the register, write to us here. A person reads every message.

What we can help with

  • Reading or understanding a document in the register, and where its archive holds it.
  • Which record series could take a particular line further back, and where they are.
  • Whether a surname appears in the documents we hold, and in what context.
  • Corrections. If something on this site is wrong, we want to know.

Some questions are answered faster by the site itself: search the register by surname, browse the archives, or read how to research your family line.

Write to us

So we can reply. Never added to the mailing list unless you join it.
If you'd rather we call. We reply by email otherwise.

What you send is kept on our own systems, used only to answer you, and never shared or sold. To have a message deleted, write and ask.

The mailing list

A newsletter is on the way: new documents in the register, case studies, and what new research does and doesn't show. Leave your details and we'll write when it starts.

We'll only use your details to send you the newsletter and occasional news about the site. We never share or sell them, and you can ask to be removed at any time.
